Ran Cross Country and Track in High school but started running again as an adult in 2013 with the Fleet Feet NOBO classes my wife and I took. We progressed through Tri 101, 102, and I continued on with 201. Worked with some amazing coaches in all three disciplines (4 if you count the beer at the end!) and have been having fun since!
Enjoy the sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, but have my eye on the longer races at some point. But with hiking (a trip to the Grand Canyon later this year is in the works for rim to rim to rim hike), offroading, and family out of town, finding the time to get it all done has kept those longer races at bay.
Swimming has been my weak link, despite being a certified scuba diver (Man, I wish I could use fins, BC’s, and regulators in triathlon!), but really enjoy the bike and am working on being stronger off the bike for a better run. Again, Fleet Feet’s programs have helped with the run performance and I can’t speak highly enough about them!
My goals continue to be continual improvement WHILE HAVING FUN! With the triathlon community in Huntsville and north Alabama, having fun is easy to do! The improvement is both short and long term.
I’d like to undertake a half ironman distance race at some point, but that is more long term at this point. Speaking of long term, health will always be my number 1 goal. Whether it is reduced cholesterol or blood pressure, or increased strength, endurance and overall fitness, being healthy is key for me. But looking short term, I love the local races around here and even direct one of them (Heel and Crank Duathlon), so doing the local races brings me that joy. Additionally, I have a non-triathlon goal of doing that rim to rim to rim hike (with hiking and camping gear) with my wife at the Grand Canyon later this year, so that is a huge focus for me early on this year. Don’t be surprised to see us up on Monte Sano going up Waterline, McKay Hollow or some other fun climbs in full hiking gear and backpacks!
